This won’t make you fluent

Actually, it won’t make you close to fluent.

Then again, you didn’t come here because you’re looking for fluency … at least not right away.

While we can’t make you fluent in 7 days, we can do something else. Something I’d argue is equally exciting and probably almost as impressive.

Something so many students take forever to figure out (some spend months studying before doing this, if not years).

I’m talking about starting to speak French.

Hold on. What kind of witchcraft is this? Jamais de la vie!

“Don’t you need to know a ton of background before you’re ready for conversations in French?”

Many students feel this way, and they love to think that French is more complicated than it needs to be.

These students live in a beginner's illusion.

There’s a common fallacy in the French language community that you can’t start speaking until you reach a certain level.

In reality, it's just because these people overcomplicate the situation and pile wild expectations on top.

They think you need perfect grammar, flawless pronunciation, and vocabulary the size of a dictionary before you can even think about talking to native speakers.

Because of their conviction, they insist on spending all their time learning “background stuff” with Duolingo, French Podcasts, YouTube channels, etc. – even if none of those have helped them have a single conversation in French.

It’s like they caught a French language version of Stockholm Syndrome.

I’m not saying there’s anything wrong with spending time on resources like Duolingo, but you can spend ages learning “background stuff” and never make it to your first real French conversation.

Then when you finally talk to a native speaker for the first time, you realize you didn’t have to spend so much energy getting the perfect background knowledge.

Think about it this way…

If you suddenly moved to France, would you spend months in solitary before trying to talk to anyone?

Of course not. That would be ridiculous.

You’d more likely try your best to engage in conversations because being alone and isolated would be much worse than the mistakes and embarrassments you’d make in French.

The problem is that most French students don’t learn in a context even remotely similar to this. So they want to use most of their time on “background stuff” because it’s comfortable.

That’s the grand illusion in a nutshell.

You don’t have to accept these terms.

The biggest part of being ready to speak isn’t about how much French you know – it’s about how much courage and confidence you have in what you know 

Of course, you need some foundation, but it’s much less than you think.

It’s just that you got all tangled up in your affection for this language.

It happens, and you wouldn’t be the first one.

It’s an intensive course, and we decided to trim, cut, and discard anything that doesn’t go into the recipe of basic French conversations.

Because of that, we won’t be doing lengthy lessons or lectures with hour-long videos.

Not that we’re against it.

Comprehensive courses have a place, of course, and we’ve actually developed quite a few of them that can bring you to French fluency – but that takes more than one week.

This crash course is going to feature short videos that cover the bare necessities so you can get started speaking from day one.

The entire class has 5 hours of video instruction and guidance, and each video lesson is only 2 to 10 minutes long.

This format ensures that it’s easy to complete every daily lesson. You can even review or go through the material several times if you need to.

Although the videos are short, they're packed with material focused on basic conversation, and you're guided by instructions from a real native speaker.

Your practice will mimic live conversations, similar to living in a French-speaking country – or at least as close as possible.

This way, you’ll absorb the language and get confident about speaking faster than you can get to the front of the line for the Eiffel Tower (nearly).

Combining language instruction with immersive practice

We cover language basic instruction in the first 3 types of lessons (in English).

A quick coffee break, healthy juice, glass of wine (or whatever you’re into) later, we jump head first into French practice.

It’s great because you get used to the feeling of having the conversation flowing under your skin.

When you eventually encounter a native French speaker, it won’t feel terrifying and new because you’ll have been immersed in this already.
