Day 18: Direct and Indirect Object Pronouns

Exercise 1: Say if the underlined group of words is: a direct object or an indirect object:

J’aime le fromage. (I like cheese)

Elle a entendu son chien (She heard her dog barking)

J’ai donné les clés à Sandra. (I gave the keys to Sandra)

Tu peux prendre mon stylo. (You can take my pen)

Il est allé à la fête pour faire plaisir à sa femme. (He went to the party to please his wife)

Exercise 2: Replace the underlined group of words with the right direct object pronoun and rewrite the sentence:

Je mange des fruits. (I eat some fruits)

Il a oublié son manteau. (He forgot his coat)

J’ai passé mon examen avec succès. (I passed my exam with success)

Claire amènera sa voiture pour nous chercher. (Claire will bring her car to pick us up.)

Lucien est allé rejoindre ses amis dans la cafétéria. (Lucien went to join his friends in the cafeteria.)

Exercise 3: Fill in the blanks with : me, te, le, la, l’, nous, vous, les :

1. Je te conseille d’acheter cette crème hydratante. Je utilise souvent et je trouve que c’est un bon produit. (I advise you to buy this moisturizer. I use it often and I think it’s a good product)
2. Nous avons eu un très bon serveur. Il a apporté notre commande rapidement et avec le sourire. (We had a very good server. He brought us our order quickly and with a smile)
3. Je vais aller au musée du Louvre avec Benoit. Il va montrer la fameuse Joconde. (I am going to go to the Louvre Museum with Benoit. He’s going to show me the famous Mona Lisa.)
4. As-tu reçu le colis ? je ai envoyé le Mardi dernier. (Did you recieved the package? I sent it last Tuesday)
5. Où sont mes lunettes ? je ai cherchés partout. (Where are my glasses? I looked for them everywhere.)

Exercise 4: Complete the sentences with the right direct object pronouns:

1. J’ai adoré ce film. Je ai vu la semaine dernière. (I loved this movie. I saw it last week)
2. Il a pris ton parapluie. Il te rendra demain. (He took your umbrealla. He will give it back to you tomorrow.)
3. Il habite dans mon quartier. Je vois chaque matin en allant au travail. (He lives in my neighborhood. I see him every morning on my way to work.)
4. Mon chien est très énergétique. Il fait rire quand il court partout dans la maison. (My dog is very energetic. He makes me laugh when he runs all around the house)
5. Il va voir avec son supérieur et il rappellera. (He will see with his superior and he will call us back.)

Exercise 5: Fill in the blanks with : me, te, lui, nous, vous, leur, y :

1. Notre chien a toujours faim. Ma sœur donne souvent à manger. (Our dog is always hungry. My sister often gives him food)
2. J’adore ce restaurant. J’ vais une fois par mois. (I love this restaurent. I go to it once per month)
3. Le professeur rend nos copies d’examen. (The professor returns us our copies of the exam)
4. Vas à la bibliothèque. Nous rejoindrons plus tard. (Go to the library. We will join you later.)
5. Je suis excité d’aller chez ma mère ce week-end. Elle va préparer mon plat préféré. (I’m excited to go to my mom this weekend. She will prepare my favorite dish for me.)

Exercise 6: Replace the underlined group of words with the right indirect pronoun and rewrite the sentence:

J’ai envoyé une lettre à mon ami. (I sent a letter to my friend)

Robert aime dire des blagues à ses collègues. (Robert likes telling jokes to his colleagues)

J’ai donné un câlin à ma mère. (I gave a hug to my mother)

Ils sont partis regarder un match de football au stade. (They went to see a game of football at the stadium)

Il souhaite un joyeux noël à toi et tes parents. (He wishes a merry christmas to you and your parents)

Exercise 7: Complete the sentences with the right indirect object pronouns:

1. Les étudiants entrent dans la salle. Le prof rend leurs copies. (The students enter the classroom. The teacher gives them their copies)
2. J’aime ma grand-mère. Je rends visite au moins une fois par semaine. (I love my grandma. I visit her at least once a week)
3. Mon petit frère prend la main et ’emmène dehors pour voir la neige. (My little brother takes my hand and takes me outside to see the snow)
4. Il donne la voiture à condition de la rendre avant midi. (He gives you the car on condition that you give it back to him before noon)
5. Peux-tu rappeler cet après-midi ? (Can you call me back this afternoon ?)

Exercise 8: Replace the underlined group of words with the right pronouns and rewrite the sentence:

Je donne mes clés à mon petit-ami. (I give my keys to my boyfriend)

Il envoie le ballon à ses enfants. (He sends the ball to his children)

J’ai promis à ma mère de prendre soin de son poisson. (I promised my mother to take care of her fish)

Je passe ma carte bancaire à la caissière. (I pass my credit card to the cashier)

Sabine prête sa boussole à Claude et Jamy pour leur excursion. (Sabine lends her compass to Claude and Jamy pour they excursion)
