Being able to discuss your hobbies will enable you to have more in-depth conversations in French, so today’s lesson will focus on vocabulary that will help you to do just that.
Please note: do not just learn the noun — also try to learn the verb, because it will ensure that you make sense when speaking about hobbies in French.
Speaking Practice 1
Listen and read the dialogue below:
The verb "faire"
You probably noticed the verb faire mentioned in some of the hobbies listed above. In this extra section, let’s take a closer look at this verb.
The verb “faire” is one of the most common and useful verbs in French. It means “to do” or “to make” but also used in idiomatic expressions.
It is irregular in all tenses and moods.
In the present tense, its form will change with each pronoun placed before it as it is an irregular verb.

I | Je | fais |
You | Tu | fais |
He | Il | fait |
She | Elle | fait |
We | Nous | faisons |
You | Vous | faites |
They (at least one male in a group) | Ils | font |

• Note: “faire” is used for both “to do” and “to make,” so it is easier to use than its English counterparts.
