Day 20: Conditionals

Exercise 1: Conjugate “être” (to be), “avoir” (to have) and “aller” (to go) in the present conditional:

Exercice 2 : Choose the correct answer :

___-je avoir un verre thé, s’il vous plait ? (Could I have a glass of tea, please?)

Il ___ aller au Canada pour ses prochaines vacances. (He would want to go to Canada for his next vacations)

Si j’avais soif, je ___ de l’eau. (If I was thirsty, I’d drink some water)

Si le ciel était moins nuageux, il __ les étoiles. (If the sky was less cloudy, he would see the stars)

En lisant ce livre, elle ___son français. (By reading this book, she would improve her French)

Exercise 3: For each sentence, say if the conditional is used: to ask politely, to say what you would like or need or to make a suggestion:

Pourrais-tu me passer le sel, s’il te plait? (Could you pass me the salt please ?)

Je voudrais un peu de silence. (I would like some silence)

Je devrais lui demander. (I would need to ask her)

On pourrait prendre le métro pour y’aller. (We could take the metro to go there)

Voudriez-vous venir avec nous ? (Would you like to come with us ?)

Exercise 4: Conjugate the verbs between brackets in the present conditional:

Je (aimer) ___ aller à la plage. (I would like to go to the beach)

Nous (devoir) ___ partir parce que nous sommes déjà en retard. (We should leave because we’re already late)

Si vous aimez les haricots, vous en (manger) ___ souvent. (If you like beans, you would eat them often)

Elles (aimer) ___ bien devenir des stars. (They would like to become stars)

Je te (croire) ___ si ti me montres une preuve. (I would believe you if you show me a proof)

Exercise 5: Conjugate “manger” (to eat), “partir” (to leave) and “croire” (to believe) in the conditional:

Exercise 6: For each sentence, say if the conditional is used : to nag/complain or to make a suggestion:

On pourrait sortir boire un verre, si tu veux. (We could go out for a drink, if you want)

Est-ce que ça te dirait d’aller au cinéma ? (Would you like to go to the movies?)

Tu devrais dormir au lieu de regarder la télévision. (You should sleep instead of watching the television)

Si tu m’aidais nous finirons plus vite. (If you would help me we will finish faster)

Il devrait faire plus attention à sa santé. (He should pay more attention to his health)

Exercise 7: Conjugate the verbs between brackets in the present conditional :

S’il faisait beau, je (aller) ___ me promener. (If it was sunny, I would go for a walk.)

Si tu faisais attention, tu ne (casser) ___ pas les verres. (If you were careful, you would not break the glasses.)

Si je gagnais au loto je (acheter) ___ une voiture. (If I won at the lotto I would buy a car)

S’ils avaient du temps, ils (venir) ___ me rendre visite en été. (I they had time, they would come visit me in the summer)

S’il cessait de pleuvoir, vous (pouvoir) ___ sécher votre linge. (If it stopped raining, you could dry your clothes)
